PROJECT NAME
Akron Children’s Hospital Kay Jewelers Pavilion
J.W. Didado Electric was the electrical contractor for Summa Health System’s four-story, $25 million, 70,000-J.W. Didado Electric served as the electrical contractor during construction of Akron Children’s Hospital’s new Kay Jewelers Pavilion. Located on the hospital’s campus, the building, houses a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), emergency department, outpatient surgery center and a labor and delivery unit for high-risk newborns. A true Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) project, the facility was constructed using the Lean construction practice that utilizes “last planner” and “pull schedules” techniques. Pre-Fab was also a vital part of the process as hospital units were pre-fabricated offsite, shipped, and installed. This resulted in uniform construction from unit-to-unit and allowed for optimized production as the same few connections were completed for each unit onsite instead of wiring each room independently.
