Estimator - Commercial/Industrial

Job Summary 

 We are looking to hire an experienced electrical estimator to determine the approximate costs of various electrical installations for industrial and commercial projects. The electrical estimator’s responsibilities include determining how long each contracting job will last, researching market prices for project materials and equipment, and communicating with clients to determine the scope of each project. You should also be able to identify ways to continually improve cost-estimating procedures to reduce inconsistencies between estimated and actual project costs. 

To be successful as an electrical estimator, you should be detail-oriented and have sound knowledge of electrical codes. Ultimately, an exceptional Electrical Estimator should be adept at reading building plans and demonstrate outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Responsibilities 

    • Developing a full range of construction cost estimates from Conceptual Design parametric cost estimated to 100% Final Design bid estimates, Construction Phase Change Order Estimates 
    • Preparing a Basis of Estimate that outlines the scope, exceptions, allowance, format, in accordance with client requirements 
    • Develops and/or compiles discipline and multi-discipline material take-offs (MTOs) 
    • Evaluates and/or develops labor rates and subcontract costs 
    • Enters the information into a spreadsheet or database for inclusion in an estimate 
    • Analyze project documentation in order to scope, organize and deliver equipment, material, and labor cost estimates 
    • Develop project specific estimates based on project plans and schedules 
    • Prepare and maintain a Basis of Estimate (BOE) for each project 
    • Perform estimate benchmarking and compile project estimates prior to the internal and external review 
    • Develop the estimate plan and communicate related information 
    • Lead reviews of project estimates with the appropriate engineering disciplines 
    • Ensure that estimates are consistent with client common processes and quality standards and accurately reflect project staffing requirements 
    • Upon award, update estimate to project 
    • Generate award documents for review 
    • Identify areas of importance (milestones, LDs,) of a project and relay to sales team 
    • Facilitate a scope review with the Project Manager and designers 

Qualifications 

    • Education through an accredited JATC or trade school. 
    • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in electrical engineering or a similar field, a plus, but not required. 
    • 3-5 years of project estimating and or related experience

Estimator - Substation

Job Summary 

We are looking to hire an experienced estimator with experience in HV/MV/Substation/Transmission Projects Utility-Scale, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), GIS and Renewable Energy and HV/MV Utility Projects. This position will collaborate closely with the preconstruction team, project managers, purchasing, engineering and superintendents.

 Responsibilities (include but not limited to) 

    • Analyze blueprints. 
    • Compiling proposal documents. 
    • Conduct material and labor take-offs for all categories listed above. 
    • Determine the amount, type, and cost of materials and equipment needed for each project. 
    • Determine the amount of labor required to complete each project. 
    • Determine the potential profitability of electrical projects to assist management in making sound bidding decisions. 
    • Provide viable solutions to increase project profitability. 
    • Regularly update cost databases to accurately reflect fluctuating material and labor costs.

    Project Assistant - Commercial/Industrial

    Job Summary 

    Responsible for job scheduling, quality control, creating reports, document control, client satisfaction activities and other project management administrative support functions in an assigned division or function. This position facilitates an organized workflow with customers and project team members on assigned projects. 

    Essential Functions

    Payroll Specialist

    Position Description

    The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the weekly payroll processing of the company. It includes the accurate and timely entry of payroll related items to produce paychecks in accordance with union agreements. The payroll specialist will process a high volume of payroll transactions within a relatively short window of time in order to meet required deadlines. 

    Major Areas of Responsibility

      • Data entry of timecards
      • Effective and frequent communication with field personnel
      • Reconciliation of timecards to Foundation payroll reports
      • Timely resolution of discrepancies
      • Preparation and distribution of paychecks
      • Support other payroll department team members where required

    Specific Responsibilities of the Job

     

      • Data Entry of Timecards

        • Obtain weekly timecards for man hours and equipment hours for assigned crews
        • Review data provided and either prepare for upload to Foundation or manually key hour information into Foundation
        • Balance Foundation upload reports to Excel upload file and resolve any differences
        • Effective Communication with Field Personnel
        • Must communicate by phone or email to general foreman (GF) regarding weekly timesheet submission, hours reported, missing hours, missing timesheets, questions related to issues on timesheets, etc.
        • Must be knowledgeable of the crew roster and the information expected to be submitted for each crew in order to obtain accurate information from the GF
        • Work in a cooperative and helpful manner with the field to facilitate information sharing and make the timecard process easy for the field to comply with

        Reconciliation and Timely Resolution of Discrepancies

        • Actively participate in roundtable review of payroll runs
        • Work with company and customer representatives to communicate and reconcile payroll and equipment hours accurately and timely
        • Identify any payroll entry that appears inaccurate
        • Review hours paid and agree to hours reported for each crew/field personnel

        Preparation and Distribution of Paychecks

        • Prepare overnight packages to be sent to jobsites
        • Electronically save paycheck detail to GF’s for distribution to employees
        • Prepare child support and garnishment packages
        • Save payroll information to shared drive for access by other departments

        Support Payroll Department

        • Provide support to payroll department team where needed
        • Prepare time-cards templates for jobs as needed
        • Support/Back-up New Hire Process
        • Available during non-business hours when JWD is on storm
        • Offer suggestions for process improvement or cost savings opportunities

    Project Manager - Transmission & Distribution

    Job Summary 

    We are looking for an experienced project manager to take the lead on managing several large-scale distribution and transmission projects from estimate hand off to financial close out. This person will ultimately be responsible for the financial well-being of their projects, change order submittals, invoicing, as-built submittals, etc. The project manager should have experience with the local utilities in NY, their standards, and their field policies and procedures. They should have experience with project financials, profit/loss, forecasting, etc. on projects upwards of $50M. 

    Responsibilities 

      • Track project costs to meet budget
      • Monitor progress and adjust as needed
      • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
      • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement
      • Determine and define project scope and objectives
      • Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements
      • Predict resources needed to reach objectives & manage resources in an effective & efficient manner

    Estimator - Transmission & Distribution

    Job Summary 

    The position of Estimator should be capable of preparing proposals for all types of projects (i.e. transmission, distribution, underground, etc.). An individual in this position shall have experience in their understanding of the means and methods required for completion of various types of construction. A successful Estimator shall be able to complete all required take-offs, Requests for Proposal package reviews, and site reviews required to prepare any proposal. This position will attend project related meetings and site visits when required, complete site visits and scope discussions with assigned Superintendent or his designee, and clearly communicate the project requirements and basis for their estimate during bid reviews. 

    Responsibilities 

      • Complete cost estimates for transmission and distribution projects 
      • Attend field walkdowns with field leadership and customer representatives 
      • Prepare advanced proposals with minor assistance (project schedules, cash flows, execution plans and supporting documentation) 
      • Prepare and deliver formal presentations to prospective customers 
      • Reach out to various subcontractors for pricing, schedules, etc. 
      • Hand off the estimate to the project manager, and be able to explain the proposed execution plan, hours, equipment, etc. in full detail 

    Qualifications 

      • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, math, science, or related field 
      • Proficiency in use of required computer software (Microsoft Suite inclusive of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, Project, OneDrive, along with Online Client Portals and Oracle Primavera P6) – Specifically Microsoft Excel 
      • Proficiency in independently preparing standard proposals. 
      • Good oral and written communication skills relevant to internal and external discussions.

    Service Manager - Commercial/Industrial

    Job Summary 

    We are looking for a commercial service manager to run the day-to-day operations of our commercial service division in Syracuse, NY. This person will be responsible for managing and scheduling several crews and jobs in the surrounding area, maintaining relationships with clients and local vendors, as well as work with the office team to accurately update project costs, change orders, invoices, etc. This person should hold an IBEW Local 43 ticket and have experience running multiple crews. 

    Responsibilities 

      • Manage several crews on commercial and industrial projects 
      • Field and schedule service calls
